Which Indian universities offer B.Ed course through correspondence?
Author: Venkiteswaran Post Date: 10 May 2023 When we talk about distance education in India, the first and foremost name that comes to our mind is that of IGNOU-Indira Gandhi Open University. The name itself is a self-explanatory one.
IGNOU conducts a distance course on Bachelor of Education or B.Ed. in short. It is a two years (minimum period) program. The maximum period permitted to complete the program is five years. The program is offered in English and Hindi mediums. The minimum eligibility is a graduate degree with a minimum of fifty percent marks, and trained in-service teachers as per NCTE norms, or, those who have completed an NCTE-recognized teacher education program. 2. Dr.B.R Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad (braouonline.in): Ambedkar open university conducts a B.Ed distance learning course. The eligibility is similar to that of IGNOU. There will be an entrance test that will be held at the regional centres of the University. Prospective students can get details from the detailed online prospectus on the university website.
3. Annamalai University (annamalaiuniversity.ac.in): Annamalai University is known for its distance learning courses even in the early years.
4. Madurai Kamaraj University: Under its Directorate of Distance Education, M K University offers a two-year B.Ed. program. The course is conducted in English medium. Details can be obtained by contacting:directordde@gmail.co and visiting the university website (mkuniversity.ac.in).
The above list is just illustrative of the more popular ones. Some more universities are offering B Ed correspondence courses. Interested candidates can also enquire with some local institutes giving coaching for distance education courses.

But I request all to note that the eligibility criteria will be different from that of regular B Ed courses. The eligibility criteria are as follows.
1. The candidates must have a bachelor's or master's degree in art, science, commerce stream or engineering stream with a minimum of 50% marks.
2. Trained, in-service teachers in elementary schools are also eligible
3, Applicants who cleared a teacher education programme as recognised by NCTE can also apply
4. Candidates with 2 years of teaching experience in primary/upper primary schools are only eligible to apply. The candidates should be in service when they apply for this course.

Ed program was 9 months course But now it is a two-year degree program. As you know that the eligibility criteria will be different from that of regular B Ed courses. The eligibility criteria for B.Ed correspondence are as follows.

Post Date: 20 May 2023 It must be noted that all courses offered by Annamalai University through correspondence have been canceled by UGC, as the university, despite being a state university, was running study centres outside the state of Tamil Nadu. So, the B.Ed course offered by this university through correspondence is no longer recognized. Same is true for correspondence courses offered by some other state universities.
As on date, the B.Ed. courses offered through Distance Learning mode by IGNOU and other open universities are valid.
