Many students after doing their LLB from India aspire to do LLM from some reputed university abroad.

There are many good institutions in some foreign countries where one can try to get admission and pursue LLM. Some of the much sought-after and popular countries in this matter are the USA, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. The son of one of my relatives has completed LLB and is trying to get admission to some college in the USA.

The person who is interested to do LLM from institutions in these countries has to go to the various university portals and then find out the comparative strength of selecting a particular one. This exercise has to be done by the student himself so that he can select a good course in one of the reputed universities there. I also suggest that one should go through the hostel facilities also so that one can decide whether to stay in the hostel or outside in shared student accommodation.

When a student applies for doing LLM then the student has also to check and conform to the eligibility criteria required by these foreign institutions for admission to LLM courses. The basic eligibility conditions are good knowledge of English speaking supported by TOEFL or IELTS score and also a good score in the LLB degree acquired by the student.

Many factors are to be considered before going to do LLM outside and one of the most important factors is the financial burden of doing the course. I strongly feel that this aspect is also to be considered by the student. From that point of view, I find that Germany is the best destination as the cost of LLM courses is significantly lower (about one-fifth than that of other countries) in other places. In that case, one can focus to sort out institutions from the available ones in Germany.

Doing a PG in Law after completing LLB, is useful to candidates who want to pursue their career in the education field or corporate field. But it may not be of much help for the candidates who want to practice law in a court of law. It is better to join under a senior lawyer as a junior to him and start practising is the best option for such candidates, in my opinion.

Doing a PG in law will help the candidate improve his knowledge and understanding of the subject. It will help the candidate in having a fruitful and encouraging career, I feel. A student who did PG from a foreign university can associate with big corporates and MNCs as Legal Advisor or in a related senior position,

The best country for doing PG in Law will depend on two important factors, in my opinion. The affordability and competency of the individual will decide the best for him. Based on the general ranking and reputation of an institution one can decide which is the best. I feel.

Based on my knowledge, the best countries for doing PG in Law are the US and the UK. The following few are my suggestions. But the candidate can visit the websites of various schools of law across the world and take a call. The candidate can also contact study abroad consultants who are good in Law courses.
