Navodya schools are residential schools. Kendriya Vidyalayas are non-residential schools but may work for 2 shifts. Navodaya schools are in India only. Kendriya Vidyalayas are in other countries also (There are three branches outside India). The total number of NVS schools is 576 where as the total number of KVS schools is 1225.
Both of these have the following in common
1. Both will teach CBSE Syllabus.
2. Both are government of India-promoted schools.
3. Both give the maximum priority to discipline.
4. Both are having best infrastructure with the best laboratory and equipment.
5. They have Smart classrooms for senior secondary and activity rooms.]
6. Both schools have nationwide recognition.
5. In these two schools the teachers are very supportive.
But the general opinion of many is that Navodaya schools are better than the Kendriya Vidyalaya. The special qualities of Navodaya are as follows
1. Navodaya provides CBSE education to poor and needy children of villages. As per the records available, these are the best CBSE schools for the last 10 years.
2. These are residential schools. Students learn to manage on their own. Homesickness may go and a student may become bold.
3) It provides a good ambience and atmosphere and makes students feel as if they are in their own surroundings and they feel at home.
4)These schools provide not just education. But teaches values and leadership qualities also.

Both institutes are affiliated with the CBSE board. Both are funded by the central government. Both institute work under human resource development. But Navodaya Vidyalaya is a residential school. It was started by prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1985 to provide quality education for rural children. Generally, it is located in rural areas. Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous Organization under the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, manages the school. Navodaya Vidyalaya has no primary section. It starts from 6th the standard. Admissions into these schools are made at the 6th class level based on admission tests conducted in the concerned district by CBSE. Those children, who have passed class 5th from any rural area, are eligible to appear for the test. Education is imparted by using good technology. Classes are conducted from 6th to 10th or 12th classes. Up to the 7th class medium of instruction is the mother tongue. From class 8 onwards medium of instruction is English or Hindi. Staff are appointed on a national level and also provided training by NCERT. Since it is residential So, free lodging, boarding, uniform, and books are provided in these schools. Whereas, Kendriya Vidyalaya was started for govt's servant children. It has a primary section. This school is established for those children whose parents are in transferable Central Government including Defence and Para-military personnel. It also provides quality education. As per my knowledge, Navodaya vVidyalayais better than Kendriya vidyalaya.

I would like to share my cousin's experience, who during his school years had the chance to attend both Navodaya Vidyalaya and Kendriya Vidyalaya.
My cousin had a terrific experience when he first started attending Kendriya Vidyalaya. The school boasted excellent facilities, including a library, computer lab, and sports facilities, in addition to highly qualified professors who delivered high-quality instruction. He had made some wonderful friends and loved taking part in the many extracurricular activities the school offered.
Later, due to a variety of circumstances, my cousin had to relocate to a new city, where Navodaya Vidyalaya was his only choice. He was initially a little worried about the transition, but he was pleasantly delighted by the high calibre of instruction and facilities provided by Navodaya Vidyalaya. The school placed a greater focus on academics, and the teachers were equally skilled and committed. The school also placed a lot of value on extracurricular activities like sports, which helped my cousin become a more well-rounded person.

From my own experience, I can say that both Navodaya Vidyalaya and Kendriya Vidyalaya are excellent schools. Both offer quality education and their teachers are highly qualified and experienced. However, I believe Navodaya Vidyalaya stands out with its emphasis on holistic education, which includes academic excellence as well as extracurricular activities. The school also provides a lot of opportunities for students to learn and excel in different fields, which is why I would personally rate it as the best of the two.
From my own experience, I can say that both Navodaya Vidyalaya and Kendriya Vidyalaya are excellent schools. Both offer quality education and their teachers are highly qualified and experienced. However, I believe Navodaya Vidyalaya stands out with its emphasis on holistic education, which includes academic excellence as well as extracurricular activities.
