Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSHUS) was established in Guwahati, Assam in the year 2009. It is an affiliating university and every medical, dental, nursing, Ayurveda and homoeopathy college in Assam are under its jurisdiction. A few medical research institutions located in Assam are also under its jurisdiction. As of date, 47 institutions are under its affiliation. Srimanta Sankaradeva is the only health sciences university in the entire region of northeastern India. Ever since it was established, it has been instrumental in fostering the growth of healthcare education in the state of Assam and beyond. By collaborating and exchange of information with other such universities and institutions in India and abroad, the university has been able to provide a better platform to the healthcare professionals from the northeastern region of India.

Since the university is only an affiliating one, it does not have a campus of its own. Its offices are located in the premises of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. The colleges affiliated with it offer various undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD courses in the healthcare field.
