About the UniversityPt. Ravishankar Shukla University was established in 1964 at Raipur and named after the first chief minister of erstwhile Madhya Pradesh Ravi Shankar Shukla. It is located about 300 kilometers from Nagpur in the East on the Mumbai-Kolkata (Howrah) trunk line. It is one of the oldest institutions in the state of Chattisgarh. The campus has spread ove a large area of about 200 acres of land.
The University campus has the modern facilities and infrastructure for various departments apart from the Hostel facilities for girls, boys and teachers separately. Staff quarters, University stadium, auditorium, guest house and indoor stadium with large play ground outside are available with beautiful surroundings with trees and other flora.
The university hosts about 27 Post Graduate courses and 9 graduate courses under various departments. There are about 5000 students enrolled from various parts of Chattisgarh and the neighbouring states of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. There are Twenty-Nine teaching departments with 100 faculty members in the University.
Now there are about 1,25,000 students enrolled both for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various colleges affiliated to this University. The University has influenced the educational, cultural and economic life of the region by virtue of its excellence and vibrant teaching support.
