The Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya is a university with humanistic insight presenting courses in diverse fields and is propagated by Mahapurusha Srimana Sankardeva. The university was established on the instructions of Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha in 1930. The message of the university is based on brotherhood and humanism, with value oriented education.

The university has departments for Assamese, Sociology, Education, Sankardeva Studies and Computer Applications. Under these departments, various Bachelors, Post Graduate Diplomas, Masters and Ph. D. level courses are offered.

The University presents the following infrastructure at the University Campus : Classrooms, Computer Laboratory, Library, Internet Centre, Canteen, Auditorium, Sports and Games with District sport authorities, parking facilities. Funds can be arranged for needy students. Students are empowered through lectures, discussion, debates, seminars and symposium on a frequent basis.
