Central University of Orissa was established in the 2009 by the Government of India to promote the higher educational facilities in the tribal prone area of the Kalhandi=Bolangir-Koraput (KBK) region of Odisha. It i one among the 15 Central Universities authorised by the Parliament in 2009. There is no University in the region though popular commercial towns like Jeypore, Bolangir, Nabrangapur and Koraput are well known for major industries and advanced development. Yet these places are influenced by the tribal culture and shows the symptoms of backwardness. Keeping this in mind Government of India in consulation with the Odisha Government have apporved the establshment of the University here.

Now the University got a very good palacious building in the midst of the hilly terrain of koraput and lies at 1000mts altitude above the MSL. It almost lies on the bank of the Kolab rever and the scenic view from this building would be amazing.

Post Graduate courses in various streams of Humanities are available here and the following departments would take care of imparting the education to students.

Location

The University of Orissa is very close to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Sunabeda. and the boundary of the University adjoins the Naval Aramament Depot(NAD) which cater the Naval Armament needs. Damanjodi railway station is at distance of 15 Kms. and Koraput railway station is at a distance of 25 Kms. The nearest Airport is Visakhapatnam Airport at a distance 190 K.M from here.
