The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala is one of the 20 NITs set up by the Central Government. It has been set up with a view of improving technological education in the North-Eastern part of India. The Institute has been converted from state engineering college to NIT with an increase of seats from 250 to 420. The Central Government has been providing grant (through Ministry of Human Resource Development and Department of North Eastern Region) to develop the infrastructure of the college like the hostel and library. As a result, the residential block and the library have been developing rapidly.
