The IISER at Berhampur will probably begin its classes in 2016. The first batch would probably be starting in August and will have 50 to 60 students.

The teaching will begin at transit campus ITI Berhampur where 16 rooms spread over 14000 square feet have been given by the ITI institute.

The permanent campus will come up in the next 3 years at Laudigaon and will be spread over 200 acres of land.

About the Institute

Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur, Odisha came into existence in 2016 as an Institute of National Importance with a view to promote research in the various branches of Science and to generate interest among the students with qualitative education in B.Sc. and M.Sc.

The other IISERs are located at Kolkata, Pune, Mohali, Bhopal and Thiruvananthapuram. IISER, Bhopal has been named as the mentor institute.

The Institute started at a temporary campus at ITI, Berhampur with an intake of 60 students for the BS-MS (5 Year dual course) and proposed to be increased by strength of 665 by the third year with expansion of various courses like Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences and Mathematics.
