Dr. B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar (NIT Jalandhar) is an autonomous Institution under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi. This institution was established in the year 1987 and got the status of a National Institute of Technology from the government of India in 2002. In 2007 the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, declared this institution as an Institute of National Importance. Being a National Institutes of Technology, this institution has the responsibility of providing excellent quality technical education in engineering, science & technology and providing scientific and technical graduates for the country.

Campus infrastructure

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar provides good infrastructural facilities to students and faculty. This institute has six boys hostels and two girls hostels. The canteen in this institute is open from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm on all weekdays. A wide variety of South Indian and North Indian dishes are available here. The institute has two banks situated on the campus, the State Bank of Patiala and the Canara Bank, and their ATMs are functional round the clock.

On-campus is a dispensary operating for the treatment of various ailments and the provision of first aid to the injured. This dispensary is equipped with a pathological lab to carry out different tests. An ambulance van is available 24 hours daily for taking patients to other hospitals if required. Services of doctors and paramedical staff are available all the time in the dispensary.

Other facilities include a central seminar hall, guest house, gymnasium hall, open-air theatre, central workshop, library, bus transport, and sports grounds.

Academic programs

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology offers B.Tech. courses in various subjects. B.Tech. admission is done based on the score in JEE Main Exam. All the students must participate in JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counseling. The minimum eligibility for B.Tech admission is a pass in the higher secondary exam by studying in the science stream.

M.Tech courses in various specializations are also offered. The minimum educational qualification for M.Tech. admission is a B.E. B.Tech, B.Sc. Engineering, or M.Sc. Engineering degree in the relevant subject with a minimum of 60% marks from any recognized university. Admission to the M.Tech. program of this university is done based on the score in GATE. The students must participate in CCMT Counselling (Centralized Counseling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan./M.Des.).

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology also offers M.Sc. programs in various subjects, including Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. These are all two-year duration courses, with admission done on the basis of the score achieved in IIT JAM (Joint Admission Test for Masters). Before admission, there will be CCMN Counselling (Centralized Counselling for M.Sc.).

This university offers a two-year full-time MBA program in Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, and Financial Management. Admission to the MBA program is done based on CAT/MAT/GMAT/CMAT score followed by a group discussion and a personal interview. A Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate is the minimum educational qualification required for admission.

In addition to undergraduate and postgraduate courses, this university offers one-year PG Diploma courses in management subjects and in engineering.

Doctoral programs can be pursued as well in various disciplines at Dr. B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar. Bio-Technology, Information Technology, Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Textile Technology, Electrical Engineering, Management, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering are the Ph.D. specialisations. Students seeking admission to doctoral programs should have a Master's degree in relevant discipline of engineering/technology/management subjects with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate or CGPA of 6.5 on 10 point scale. The admission to Ph.D. courses is done based on the GATE/UGC NET score.
