Diamond Harbour Women's University was established under West Bengal Act XXXVII of 2012 on 28 January 2013. It is the first university in the district of South 24 Parganas. The university launched its first academic session in July 2014 with the introduction of two years (four semester) Post-Graduation courses in Bengali, English, History, Political Science, Education and Women's Studies. Presently, the following Post-Graduation courses are being offered by the university:- 1. Bengali Language and Literature: Seats-60 2. Education: Seats-50 3. Online admission to Post-Graduate courses generally commences from third week of June and continue till mid-July. Admission is based on merit. The university follows the extant rules for reservation. However, it may be noted that the university has not yet initiated Ph.D programme in any discipline. - Partha K.

M.Sc. in Zoology, Botany, Chemistry are also offered in Diamond Harbour Women's University. Also, several academic departments have their M. Phil. and Ph. D. courses running like Bengali, History, and Education from the Faculty of Arts and the departments of Physics and Mathematics from the Faculty of Science. From the upcoming academic year, the Department of English is also going to commence its M. Phil and PhD courses alongside the continuing postgraduate curriculum. - Poulami Bakshi
