Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences, or ILBS in short, located in New Delhi was set up by the Government of NCT of Delhi in 2009. It is an autonomous super-speciality university-cum-hospital working mainly on liver and biliary diseases. University Grants Commission (UGC) accorded Deemed-to-be-University status to ILBS under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. Institute also received ‘A' Grade accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). ILBS is the institute of excellence that offers teaching, research, and treatment in the field of Liver and Biliary diseases and allied disciplines. The institute got ranked 12 under the ‘Medical' Category by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF Rankings 2020) of MHRD.
Academics The University offers a master's as well as a doctoral degree. Apart from this Post-Doctoral Certificate Course (P.D.C.C.), Post-Graduation Certificate Course (P.G.C.C.), Diplomate of National Board (D.N.B.), Doctorate of Medicine (D.M.), Master of Chirurgiae (M.Ch.) and certificate courses are also available at ILBS.
The University offers education and research in various branches of Medical Sciences such as Cardiology, Nephrology, Oncology, Hepatology, Radiology, Urology, Renal Transplant and Pulmonary Medicines.
Infrastructure The campus of ILBS is spread over an area of approximately 7 acres that have state-of-the-art infrastructure. Classrooms are well-equipped with all modern facilities. It offers in-campus residence to all the students and all students stay at the campus hostel mandatorily. The two hostel buildings have spacious, airy rooms, and are well furnished. Hostels are provided with all facilities such as water purifiers, water coolers, washing machines, TVs, refrigerators on each floor. Cleaning and maintenance are done regularly. Pest control and fire safety systems are also provided everywhere in hostels. Good quality canteen facility provides a hygienic and nutritious meal. A well-equipped Gymnasium is also available for hostellers. A big hall is used for organizing small functions. For hostel residents who need a crèche for children, a creche facility is also available on the hostel campus. The library at ILBS contains more than 1000 resource materials such as journals, books, thesis, dissertations, and CDs/DVDs etc. It has also subscribed to several online/print versions of full-text journals and digital resources in the field of medicine, coordinated through the National Medical Library, DGHS, Govt. of India. Statistical analysis tools/software are also available in the library.
Extracurricular activities Various kinds of extracurricular activities are offered by ILBS which nurture the talent and skills of the students. A movie club, sports club, and a badminton court for regular sports activities are available. Several games such as badminton, carom, cricket, marathon etc. are played by students in the sports meets. The institute celebrates ILBS Foundation day, Hepatitis day, New Year, and other such occasions.
Admission Procedure Admission to the courses of ILBS is done based on the entrance examination. Admission to PDCC/PGCC is done based on the merit list prepared on the basis of the national test conducted by ILBS Delhi. Admission to D.M. and M.Ch. will be based on the scores obtained in NEET SS followed by counselling. ILBS also conducts an entrance test for DNB admission.
