At Palkalaiperur campus, it has Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Geosciences, Social Sciences, Marine Sciences and the Schools of Languages schools. And in the Khajamalai campus it has the departments of Economics, Social Work, Computer Science, the Centre for Remote Sensing, the Academic Staff College and others.

It offers 177 programmes including 40 PG programmes in M.A., M.Sc. and M.Tech to the students. Bharathidasan University admission notification releases in the month of May/June. Admissions are given based on the marks obtained in the previous academic qualification except for the engineering and management programmes. Admission details, Bharathidasan University

Admission to all of the university's PG programs are open to candidate's who have passed UG, and will be finalized based on the marks obtained for UG. Admission to MBA in Financial Management offered by Commerce & Finance department at School of Business Studies will be based on TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test).

Admission to 6year integrated M.Tech offered by Department of Computer Engineering & Technology at School of Computer Science, Engineering & Applications, will be open to candidates who have completed their 12th or equivalent. However, candidate's who have successfully completed their regular B.Tech will be admitted to the 5th year of this M.Tech program.

Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM), coming under BDU's School of Business has been rated as one of India's top business school. Admission to its MBA programs are strictly based on valid CAT scores, coupled with a GD & PI.
