Goa University is located near Panaji, the capital city of Goa. The university was established in 1985 and has received accreditation from The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with 'B' Grade. It is not merely a university offering wide ranging educational programs, but is also a significant centre for research for the flora plant life unique to the area. It has acquired a high reputation in this regard, so much so that the Ministry of Earth Sciences has recognized the university's contribution in this field. For this reason Goa University has its own Centre of Excellence in the field of Marine Microbiology. There are many departments at the post graduate level, too, which are receiving research grants & financial support from Central Government Departments.

The campus facilities and infrastructure of Goa University is on par with the best universities in India. Residential staff quarters are available for faculty and hostel accommodation with mess for dining for students. There is a separate international guest house too.

A Career Counseling & Placement Cell provides insightful counselling for students to launch their career after their academic years at the university. Training in soft skills is imparted too.

Admissions to all undergraduate and post graduate courses begin in the months of May & June each year.

Admissions for foreign students

Goa university offers admissions to foreign students, for whom a small percentage of seats is available. A foreign student can apply to any of the colleges affiliated to the Goa university and to the university itself. The application should be done through the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Education, Government of India, New Delhi.
