Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) is a public university at Summer Hills, 5 kms from the famous hill-station of Shimla, in the vicinity of Indian Institute of Advanced Study. It is fully funded by the state of Himachal Pradesh and University Grant Commission, New Delhi. This university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, as well as doctoral studies in various areas through the following institutes located in HPU campus itself.

1. ICDEOL - International Center for Distance Education & Open Learning.

2. Himalayan Studies - Conducts research in areas like sustainable development in Himalayan terrain, as well as social, cultural and economic aspects of development in Himalayan region. Currently offered courses are PG Diploma in Disaster Management, MFA in Pahari Miniature Painting, MSc in Environmental Science, and MBA in Rural Development.

3. HPUCES (HPU Center for Evening Studies) - Offers BA/MA, as well as B.Com/M.Com to all interested female candidates as well as employed male candidates, provided they bring the evidence of employment.

4. HPU Business School (HPUBS) - Offers MBA as well as PhD in management science. UGC/JRF qualified candidates become eligible for PhD admissions, but for others a separate entrance test will be needed for the same. Admission to MBA programs are through Management Aptitude Test (MAT 2019)

5. University Institute of IT (UIIT) - Offers B.Tech in Information Technology (IT), as well as B.Tech and M.Tech in CSE (Computer Science & Engineering).

6. HPU College of Business Studies (HPUCBS) - Offers 3year BBA as well as BCA.

7. HPU Institute of Legal Studies - Offers 5year integrated BA LLB(Hons.).

8. Institute of Tribal Studies - Offers PG Diploma in Tribal Studies (PGDTS).

9. Institute of Vocational Studies - Offers a variety of courses in hospitality like Bachelor of Hotel Management, Masters in Tourism and Travel Management, 5year integrated course in tourism administration, PhD in Tourism.

Like every other similar courses in India, UGC/NET is a per-requisite for PhD admissions at HPU (Other candidates will have separate admission to doctoral programs), NEET UG/NEET PG for MBBS/BDS or MD/MS/MDS, JEE mains or HPCET (Himachal Pradesh Common Entrance Test) for B.Tech, GATE for M.Tech, and MAT for MBA.
