Commonly called Pusa Institute, IARI is an institute standing for agricultural research, education as well as application of these research in farming practices through educating farmers. IARI is financially controlled and administered by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). ICAR is an autonomous institute aiming agricultural education as well as research in the country of India. IARI is located in New Delhi, India.

IARI offers undergraduate, postgraduate, as well as doctoral courses through its various schools of study. They are,
1. School of Crop Improvement - Offers studies through two divisions, namely Genetics, as well as Seed Science & Technology

2. School of Plant Protection - Offers studies through four divisions, namely Plant Pathology, Entomology, Nematology, and Agricultural Chemicals. Additionally, a regional station in Pune focusing on virus diseases in plants also comes under this school.

3. School of Basic Sciences - Offers studies through two divisions, namely Biochemistry as well as Plant Physiology.

4. School of Natural Resource Management - Offers studies through four divisions, namely Agronomy, Agricultural Physics, Agricultural Engineering, and Microbiology. Additionally, Center for Environment Science and Climate Resilient Agriculture (CESCRA) to study the impact of changes in environment and climate in agriculture, Water Technology Center (WTC) focusing on agricultural water management, and Agricultural Knowledge Management Unit (AKMU) focusing on bioinformatics activities, as well as information technology in agriculture, also comes under the school of natural resource management.

5. School of Horticultural Science - Offers courses through five divisions, namely Vegetable Science, Fruits & Horticulture Technology, Floriculture & Landscaping, Food Science & Post Harvest Technology, and Protected Cultivation Technology. IARI Regional Station at Katrain, Himachal Pradesh also comes under this school. Katrain center has done so many contributions, mainly in the field of self-sufficient seed-production of temperate vegetables.

6. School of Social Sciences - Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension (Agricultural extension deals with application of agricultural research in farming practices through educating farmers). Other centers coming under this school are, ATIC (Agricultural Technology Information Center), as well as CATAT (Center for Agricultural Technology Assessment & Transfer).

7. IARI also has a postgraduate school, offering postgraduate courses in various areas of agricultural sciences.

IARI Admissions 2019

As of now, IARI offers M.Sc, M.Tech, as well as PhD courses.

Admission to M.Sc & M.Tech will be based on entrance test conducted by IARI for candidates with B.Sc & B.Tech in Agricultural and related fields.

PhD admissions will be done on the basis of entrance test conducted by IARI for candidates with post-graduation in agricultural or related fields. Admission will be finalized on the basis of performance in this entrance test, marks obtained for post-graduation, along with GD/PI performance of the candidate.
