Among the world's language families the Dravidian family of languages enjoys a special place of distinction with an ancient origin and a continuation of a greater civilization. The Dravidian family of languages comprises 27 languages spread across the entire India and Beluchistan. All of them have contributed to the oneness of the rich mosaic of Indian culture. The major languages are; Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.

An Institution with Distinct Character

Fulfilling the long felt intellectual call for a national institution to conduct study and research both at home and abroad in these ancient languages and to promote a greater sense of fraternity and spirit of integration among the speakers of the major Dravidian languages in the South the Government of Andhra Pradesh has benevolently come forward to establish Dravidian University through a Legislative Act in October 1997 involving the support of the other Southern States, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.

Dravidian University is a university headquartered at Kuppam, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. As of now the university has more than 20 academic departments, and various research centers.

Courses offered and admission details, Dravidian University

Dravidian University offers PG, as well as Doctoral degrees through its various departments,
i) School of Commerce & Management - offers B.Com, M.Com, BBA, as well as MBA.

ii) School of Comparative Literature & Translation Studies - It contains CDLP (Comparative Dravidian Literature & Philosophy), English & Communications, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Tulu departments. Except Malayalam department, every department offers MA, M.Phil, as well as PhD. Malayalam departments offers MA, Diploma, as well as Certificate courses. There are also certificate as well as diploma courses offered by these departments.

iii) School of Education & Human Resource Department - The departments of Education (B.Ed, M.Ed, M.Phil, and PhD), Language Teaching & Technology (TPT or Telugu Pandit Training, M.Phil, PhD), Physical Education (B.P.Ed, M.Phil, PhD).

iv) School of Herbal Studies and Naturo Sciences - The departments coming under are, Herbal Sciences (B.Sc in Botany, Biotechnology, & Chemistry; M.Sc in Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Herbal Science; M.Phil, PhD), Bio-Technology (M.Sc, M.Phil, PhD), Microbiology (M.Sc), Botany (M.Sc), Chemistry (M.Sc in Organic Chemistry; M.Phil, PhD), Zoology (M.Sc), and Physics (M.Sc).

v) School of Human & Social Sciences - Departments of Archeology & Culture (MA in History; M.Phil, PhD), Folklore & Tribal Studies, Dravidian & Computational Linguistics. The second and third departments offers MA, M.Phil, and PhD.

vi) School of Sciences & Technology - The departments coming under this school are, Computer Science (B.Sc, M.Sc, MCA, M.Phil, PhD), Library & Information Science
(M.Li.Sc, M.Phil, PhD), Mathematics, and Statistics. The last two departments offers M.Sc.

MCA and MBA admissions will be through Telegana State Integrated Common Entrance Test.

B.Ed, as well as B.P.Ed admissions will be through Education, as well as Physical Education Common Entrance Test.

Dravidian University conducts its own admission test, DUCET (Dravidian University Common Entrance Test).
