Kurukshetra University, located at Kurukshetra, Haryana was the brainchild of the Sanskrit scholar, Shri. Chandeshwar Prasad Narayan Singh and got established in 1957 with only one department, Sanskrit. Courses and Admission details at Kurukshetra University, 2019

1. Undergraduate courses - B.Tech, B.Pharm, BA LLB (5year integrated), LLB (3years), BA (Mass Communication), BHM, B.Sc (Graphics & Animation, Multimedia, etc.), B.Ed, B.Ed in Special Education, B.PEd, Integrated MBA, MPA (5year integrated course in Performing Arts), Integrated M.Tech (5year integrated course in Geology).

Admission to B.Tech courses will be finalized by Haryana State Technical Education Society based on JEE mains performance of the candidate. Admission to all other undergraduate courses will be on merit based on the marks obtained for qualifying examination, 12th or equivalent.

2. Postgraduate courses - MA (Journalism & Mass Communication, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Political Science, Public Administration, History, etc.) M.Com, M.Ed, M.PEd, MBA, M.Sc (Psychology, Mass Communication, Geography, Physics, etc.), M.Sc (Tech), M.Sc (Library & Information Science), MCA, M.Tech.

Admission to M.Tech courses are only to candidates with a valid GATE score. For all PG courses, there will be a Common Entrance Examination conducted by Kurukshetra University, where as MCA admissions will be fully controlled Haryana State Technical Education Society.

3. Doctoral studies (PhD, as well as M.Phil) - PhD admissions are open to candidates having NET/JRF or equivalent. Vacant PhD seats will be offered to others having M.Phil or Masters Degree in the corresponding area. M.Phil admissions will be given on the basis of the decision by the respective department at Kurukshetra University for candidates having a regular post-graduation.

The Kurukshetra University was the first residential University established in 1956. Its location at historic Kurushetra where Bhagwad Gita was taught by lord Krishna to Arjuna made the university more prominent. It is situated on the western bank of Brahma Sarover (the holy tank) extending an area of over 400 acres. The Department of Sanskrit was first started here and it later grew into a one of the premier centres for advanced study and research in the region.

The Departments in the University include are Department of Arts & Languages, Department of Social Sciences, Department of Life Sciences, Department of Science, Department of Education, Department of Indic Studies, Department of Engg. & Technology, Department of Law and Department of Commerce & Management.

The courses offered are - Graduate and Post Graduate courses in Engineering, Medicine, Library and Information Sciences, Journalism and Mass Communication M.A in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Economics, Psychology, Political Science, Public administration, Sociology, Anthropology , Master's Degree in Applied Yoga and Health, M.Com, M.Sc in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, Botany, Zoology, Organic Chemistry, Phamaceutical Chemistry, Physics , M.C.A, MBA, BCA, BBA, B.Li Sc, LLB and M A in Defence Strategic Studies.

Infrastructure and facilities

The university has good facilities with spacious accommodation, a large library, a big convocation hall, well equipped laboratories and in nutshell it is a very big temple of learning. The Directorate of Sports centre takes care of the sports activities in the campus and produced some of the established athletes to the country.
