About Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University

Since its inception in 1966, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU) has gained a good reputation. Originally named Kanpur University, CSJMU has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a 'B' Grade. There are more than 300 affiliated colleges with CSJMU.

The university's academic field covers all the possible streams one can think of. These include the conventional Arts (B.A., M.A.), Science (B.Sc., M.Sc.), Commerce (B.Com, M.Com.), Engineering (B.Tech., M.Tech.), Management (MBA), Law, Life Sciences and Medicine disciplines (including Ayurved) as well as unique courses such as Fine Arts (Painting, Sculpture, Commercial Art) and languages such as English, etc.

The faculty receives encouragement to pursue research work alongside their teaching role. Campus Infrastructure and Facilities at Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University

The over 260-acre campus of CSJMU, Kanpur is pretty impressive in its architectural design, what with a botanical garden, a photographic, an eye-popping auditorium and impressive quarters for both, faculty and visiting national and international guests and eminent speakers.

In addition to large classrooms for each department, there is a vast lecture hall complex with state of the art presentation aids, used for talks delivered by guest speakers and by on-campus faculty. Beyond academics, sports and cultural events are organized on a regular basis. For this, there is a multipurpose Hall. Located at the very heart of the campus, it includes facilities for indoor games such as badminton, table tennis, etc and for cultural programs, debates, art competitions, etc. Youth festivals have also been organized here.

The Central Library subscribes to over a hundred reputed national and international journals and has an expansive number of books, research thesis, encyclopedias, etc relevant to every course. Students, faculty and research scholars can get online access to journals via the digital system. The university's health centre, located at the University Institute of Health Sciences on the campus, provides good medical facilities. Specialist doctors of Kanpur in the fields of orthopaedics, dentistry, gynaecology, psychiatry, ophthalmology, etc have scheduled visits for consultation. Inexpensive pathology tests can be done, operation theatre facilities are available and an ambulance service is available 24x7.

On-campus hostel accommodation is available for students and with a shopping complex within the campus, students do not have to worry about basic day to day necessities. There is also a convenient photocopying facility here for the students.

Other useful facilities include a post office, two Banks with ATM facilities and offering educational loans, a stadium for outdoor sports like football, volleyball, kabbadi, etc and to host inter-collegiate sports competitions, a school for the children of University staff members and outsiders to get primary schooling, etc. There is a police station just outside the campus gates to provide security and maintain law and order within the campus.

The University Counseling Cell is a vital cog in ensuring the wholesome development of the student and providing support in times of a personal crisis, psychological or otherwise. Admissions in Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University

To know the eligibility criteria for each course, students should refer to the Admission Brochure which is available at the university website at the time of the admission notification for the academic session of the current year. Some courses require the student to have a minimum score of 45%, but for most of the courses, it is 50%.

Admission is done through an online process and an entrance test. Private candidates who fulfil the eligibility requirements are given admission only for certain courses. Such candidates must submit their application in the prescribed format only, which should be submitted along with all the requisite documents and through proper channel to the Registrar.

University Campus Placement

There is a University Placement Cell (UPC) to provide job placement facilities for on-campus students as well as those of all affiliated colleges. In addition to the office premises of the cell, there are rooms for group discussions and interviews, video conferences, etc.
