Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya is one of the best agricultural universities of the country. The main campus of the university is located at Mohanpur, Nadia District, West Bengal. The university offers agriculture education at Under-Graduate and Post Graduate levels with research facilities. The university has three departments, viz., Agriculture, Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering. The university was established in 1974.
In 2001, the university underwent major structural changes. The North Bengal campus of the University located at Cooch Behar along with three northern regional stations at Kalimpong, Kooch Behar and Dinajpore have been detached from the main university and a new agricultural university named Uttar Benga Krishi Viswavidyalaya was created. So far as Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya is concerned, another two new campuses at Barddhaman and Bankura have been established.
The university is fully residential. The library of the university at Mohanpur campus is worth mentioning for the books related to agriculture, horticulture and related subjects as well as for valuable agricultural journals, both from India and from foreign countries.

Placement Cell The university has a very active placement cell for its students. A fully equipped and proficient placement centre is being housed in the Mohanpur campus for the convenience of outgoing students. This round-the-year placement activity involves students in interactive counseling sessions with the members of the placement cell to ensure their gainful placement in the jobs before they leave the university.Students get appointment not only in Govt. sector, but also in eminent companies in private sector.
