Kerala Kalamandalam is a Deemed University exclusively for Arts & Culture, located on the banks of Bharathapuzha river, at Cheruthuruthi, Thrissur district, Kerala. The university revived Kerala's traditional art-forms, Kathakali, Koodiyattam, and Mohiniyattam.

Course & Admission details, Kerala Kalamandalam

Kerala Kalamandalam follows gurukula-sampradaya (where all students will be residing in the campus during their studies). The university offers Arts-related schooling (equivalent to high school & plus two), UG, PG, as well as PhD courses in various art-forms including the artforms Kathakali, Kathakali Sangeetham, Chutti & Vesham, Koodiyattom, Thullal, Mohiniyattom, Bharathanatyam, Kuchipudi; Karnatic Classical Music vocals; Instruments like Chenda, Mizhavu, Thimila, Maddalam, etc. Kalamandalam also offers special training programs (open to foreigners as well) in various performing art forms (Karnatic Classical Music, Kathakali, Koodiyattam, Chenda, Maddalam, Mizhav), to which admissions are granted on the basis of the candidate's aptitude in the course he / she wants to study (It will be tested by a committee or panel).

Courses are,
i) Arts High School (from 8th standard to 10th standard).

ii) Arts Plus Two (Two year).

iii) UG courses - Now revised as 3year BPA (Bachelor of Performing Arts).

iv) PG courses - 2 year MA in Kathakali, Koodiyattam, Mohiniyattom, Mridangam, Chenda, and Karnatic Vocals.

v) Doctoral studies - M.Phil & PhD.

Admission will be based on aptitude test coupled with an interview conducted by Kerala Kalamandalam itself. Stipend will be given to eligible candidates based on their family income.

PhD/M.Phil admissions will be granted to those with a PG degree, based on an entrance test conducted by the University itself. However, NET/JRF holders, teachers from Govt. and Aided colleges in art-forms, M.Phil holders from a recognized university with 2 published papers in areas related to art-forms will be exempted from this entrance test.
