Mother Teresa Women's University was founded in 1984 and is located in Kodaikanal, a serene hill town in Tamil Nadu's Palani Hills. It is the only women's university under the Tamil Nadu State Government. The university is named after the legendary Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Mother Teresa. This university has NAAC grade 'A' status. The aim of this higher education institution is to empower women through education. It seeks to enhance young women's employment prospects while also focusing on academic excellence and personality development.

Mother Teresa Women's University offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs as well as research programs in arts and sciences and other fields. There are 12 women's colleges under this university in the Dindigul and Theni districts of Tamil Nadu. Mother Teresa Women's University offers distance education courses also in addition to regular courses. This higher educational institution conducts a number of research projects that are funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD), the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).

A Training and Placement Cell is functioning here to give training to the students who are studying in this university to enable them to get a good job. The University has entered into MoUs with various multinational companies to provide campus placement to students enrolled in various streams. Every year, companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, and Nokia come here to recruit students for high-paying positions.

Mother Teresa Women's University offers scholarships to students from economically disadvantaged areas. This scholarship is usually available to students belonging to SC/ST category. Admission details Mother Teresa Women's University

Admission to MCA, and MBA (dual specialization), will be through Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET), only for women.

Admission to other PG courses in Arts as well as Science courses (which includes MBA in Tourism Management, Bachelors and Masters in Library Science) will be based on the list prepared on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate for her UG.

M.Phil is open to women candidates who have successfully completed PG in a respective area.

PhD admissions are open to women candidates who have successfully completed their PG in the respective areas.
