Established in 2001, the Mizoram University is a Central University in India with over two dozen affiliated colleges. The university offers undergraduate programs in Engineering and Technology and Post Graduate & Ph.D. programs in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Earth Sciences & Natural Resources Management, Education & Humanities, and Economcis Management & Information Services. Some of the affiliated colleges of the university offer programs in the commerce stream as well as professional courses, such as law, Radiography & Imaging Technology, Pharmacy, Nursing, etc.

The campus premises is also home to the Kendriya Vidyalaya School (KVS) which offers education to students from Class I to Class V.

Campus Infrastructure & Facilities

Located in Tanhril, just outside Aizawl, Mizoram university has, over the years, developed the existing campus infrastructure and facilities. These include:
Campus Network: The campus offers internet facilities and also has an intra campus network.

A Central Library: Information about the library's books is easily available through its computerized system. Other than periodicals and journals, dailies in the local language in addition to English & Hindi are available. Good to know is that the library has an efficient computerized Braille system for the visually impaired students. The library's security is operated by the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Management System).

A Health care centre: This centre provides all basic medical aid as well as conducts educational & monitoring programs for the faculty & students. .

A laboratory: The lab was set up a couple of years ago with all the requisite equipment & is manned by a lab technician.

A Computer centre: This centre has 50 computers available for use for both students and staff, including non-academic staff. Technical knowledge is also provided when required.

A Central Instrumentation lab: This laboratory is equipped with the most modern analytical research instruments, be it environmental, biological, physical or other allied sciences.

Unique Features of Mizoram University

Mizoram University has 3 unique departments:
- Department of Horticulture, Aromatic and Medicinal Plants (HAMP)
- Department of Environmental Sciences
- Department of Extension Education & Rural Development
Approved centre for NET and SLET exams

There are 2 institutes on the same university campus:
- The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Delhi: This institute conducts Diploma courses in Journalism, Advertising & Public Relations
- The National Institute of Orthopaedically Handicapped (NIOH) Centre for the North East region
The university has its own Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), which gathers feedback on courses & the faculty teaching from students.

There is a National Service Scheme Cell which conducts NSS programs. In all, there are 87 units set up in 25 colleges affiliated to Mizoram University.

The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) ensures that policies & programs of SCs/STs/OBCs(Non-Creamy Layer)/Persons with Disabilities are properly implemented. The welfare of women and minorities is also supervised by the EOC.

The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) dispenses information about HIV & AIDS, such as its prevention, treatment, support, etc.
