A child reads faces and minds before reading alphabets

Probably only after reading this thread some of us would have given a thought to it. Most mothers know this well. A mother and her child are well versed in reading each other's face and mind. A mother can go further and she reads and finds the underlying message of every gesture, sound and expression of her infant.
We can reason this about mothers because they are anyway adults and have learned a lot in their life . But what about the newborn child? In which university or school it is trained? That is what we call nature or instinct or inborn or to say more easily, mystery and miracles of God.
At least now look back about the infant days of your child or your grandchild and try to find and relate your observation about what I noted in the title sentence. How easily or immediately a child smiles or cries responding to various sounds, gestures and actions by elders? How clearly it reads the mind of its mother, father, siblings, grandparents and strangers and responds accordingly based on its reading those differences?
While reading is generally the first step of formal learning, it is a child's inborn ability to read the face and mind of the people around it. Probably this is the first 'R' before the normally referred three "r's.

The author has raised a very interesting post about the behaviour of a child in its infant stage. When the child is new born and opens his or her eyes then he or she starts recognising the things around. Though initially he or she is not able to fix his eyeballs on any object but slowly within a few weeks he or she starts recognising some objects around and first in that series is the mother. This is really a miracle of nature that a child so small is able to notice the face of his mother and sees to it at times. Normally infants will cry when they are hungry or feeling uncomfortable. Other times they will simply glance here and there trying to learn as where they are.
    Knowledge is power.

As the author has come out with a unique reading sense of a child that he calls nature, a miracle, or whatsoever, it is a bonding between a mother, a father and their child. However, it is in fact learned in the womb itself when the mom is in 24 weeks of pregnancy. The fetus can feel the sense of touch and be familiar with voices too irrespective of mom, dad, or anything in the surroundings. That is why doctors advise the family to keep the pregnant woman in a cool, relaxed, happy/positive mood. This is because the baby in the belly starts to react to the voices surrounding it. We can observe that the baby moves away getting irritated when doctors do scans sometimes, which s/he does not like and not respond when in sleep. I witnessed this while I accompanied my daughter-in-law's follow-up visit for a scan. Many of us have come across the story of Abhimanyu, son of Arjuna in Mahabharatha who listened to the secret of Chakravyuha told by his uncle, Krishna to his mom while he was in the womb. This may be an epic, but medically proven that the infant starts reading/learning in the womb. We learned from what we have seen and trust the Almighty for what we have not seen.

That is very correct. Newborn babies start seeing the faces of the people around them and start reading about the changes in their faces. So the author is right in saying that children will start reading the faces even before they start recognising the alphabet. After seeing the faces he will try to hear the voices and understand them before he starts reading. As a matter of fact, we read about others through their faces only. There are people who know face reading. They will read the faces and tell many things about the individuals.
A child will feel the touch and start understanding what is happening around them. As mentioned by Bhavani garu in her writing babies start learning when they are in the mother's womb itself. The baby can recognise the mother because of the reading/ learning in the womb.

What the author has indicated is absolutely correct. God has given an unique sense of identifying surroundings to the newly born baby of sensing every thing surrounding him. First of all, he identifies his/ her mother and closely observes her face to know her different reactions. The infant picks up the sense of reading the environment while he is inside the womb of the mother having his age of 25 weeks. The learning process grows after the birth of the child. He would start learning the different gestures of the mother and usually laughs at seeing mother's face in his happy mood and in case of grief, his crying face would indicate the same. He is in a position to understand the different emotions of his/ her mother while the baby is sucking the milk from mother's nipples. The unique bond of closeness later multiplies with the other family members at a later stage say a couple of months after the birth.

The bond between the child and the mother is very unique. The first teacher of the child is the mother who reads the expressions on her face very easily. Even for grown-up children who go to some places where their native language is not spoken, face reading can help them to communicate efficiently.

Bhavani had given some more inputs for this thread discussion by her response # 769875 above.

I agree. Not only mother, but also father. I remember our daughter. When she didn't learn to speak, even then she could understand my pain, disappointment, anger and when I was in good mood. She tried to give solace to me when I was disappointed due to some reasons. How could she understand my different moods, even before she learnt to speak, is definitely a mystery.

Partha@ 769911, I did not deliberately omit father. But I just wanted to state the natural sequence, as mother is the first one to be in close contact with the child. It is mother who spends more time with the child at least for the initial weeks and months.
Responses and reactions may undergo changes later or in due course. But initially at the very first naturally it is the mother in general conditions.
