Reading is an important precursor to writing

Reading is a great hobby as it helps us in accumulating a lot of knowledge related to various matters in the world around us. Continuous reading not only enhances the mental power of a person but he becomes aware of many things which are happening in this world in different places, in different communities, in different ways.
It is the exhaustive reading that opens the creative faculty in the mind of a person and he starts thinking imaginatively.
Those people who have a habit of reading since their early childhood later become very good in expressing things and presenting them in their own words. Some of these persons become good writers and establish themselves in the field of writing.
I strongly believe that reading is the precursor to writing. How do the members feel about this? Please share your opinion.

This is my entry for the month end topic based TOW contest on the topic -Reading.

Reading will give us a chance to improve our vocabulary. A good writer needs a good vocabulary. So definitely, reading is the starting point to start writing. A content writer should have good language knowledge that will come through reading various books that are available.
A writer should have the habit of reading as much as possible. This reading will be useful to the writer in improving his writing skills. Many people will have the habit of reading books. This reading habit keeps them in touch with the latest updates on the subject. If we forget reading we don't understand what is happening around in this world. So we will become outdated. Then we can't even attempt to write something as our knowledge on that particular subject will become obsolete. So start reading and slowly you will inculcate the habit of writing also.

Reading regularly makes the reader learn many important aspects of writing. Several people get ideas while reading books and write them down very efficiently. A voracious reader is always interested in sharing the knowledge he had come across after reading something useful. He pens down what he had read effortlessly as he would have understood the subject clearly. Thus, I feel reading habits can help a person to write better.

Reading is either a precursor or a 'co-cursor' to writing.
While both reading and writing both needs practice for smooth use, reading is relatively easy and less exhausting.
Reading has become still more easy and effortless after the popularity of audio reader software applications. The application will read the text for you and you simply have to listen. Now many pole have rediscovered their old reading habit thanks to the large numbers of audio books.

No doubt, a person's reading habit/hobby is a precursor that may transform the person into a good writer. Reading a book or anything on the internet is a potential source of gaining knowledge. Over a few decades back, when I was a child, reading was the one and only entertainment apart from watching movies on a big screen and going out to the beach, the park, the temple, etc., occasionally. No television, no digital gadgets. We have a library named Ramakrishna Math library (still existing) nearby our house in Mylapore, my hometown and it was my favorite place to go and take a book to read in the evening after school hours. My daddy always encouraged me to go to the library for reading, which inculcated the habit of reading in myself that turned into a hobby and made me a vivid reader. I believe this hobby instilled a craving for a passion for writing and I had the great pleasure to publish a book on Amazon Kindle. The ISC has supported tuning my writing skills, which I need to mention here as a testimonial to the best educational platform indeed.

However, the evolution of digital entertainment and the pandemic outbreaks somewhat limited my reading habit, yet I am crazy going after searching for books of my favorite genre to purchase printed versions along with digital books online. Truly speaking, agreeing with the author, the hobby of reading has been a forerunner to my passion for writing.

You have rightly mentioned that it is co-cursor also. Interesting observation.

    Knowledge is power.

What the author has said, is correct. The more you read, the more is the possibility to write better. This is because our brain keeps everything in store. Whatever we read, remains in the memory bank of the brain. When we try to write, the relevant portion stored in our memory bank, comes out in an appropriate place/manner.
