Alert to parents as annual examinations are nearing

From today almost all states are conducting annual examinations to students in all levels of schools and colleges. Since this examination is deciding the fate of their long one year education, the utmost care should be adopted by the students through better preparations.

For their better preparations, the role of parents and other house persons are very important in helping them. Here helping means they need not sit with them but without disturbing them with our mobiles, televisions, radios, newspapers, magazines, discussions, quarrels, arguments etc.,

In my house, during our college examinations, we never forget our younger brothers as they used to buy tea from shops for our night study without any hesitation. During their examinations we used to help them in similar way.

My mother and aunt used to keep themselves by sitting outside of the house to avoid outsiders coming into the house during our studying. Even they did not talk themselves louder when we are studying in the house.
In this juncture, I never forget our mother and aunts' help as they used to clean all our writings on floor/door backsides with chalk as we did during our study by writing formulae and sums.

Parents and elders can offer harmless foods to their children during the examination period. My mother stopped cooking oily items during our examination time irrespective of quarterly, Half yearly or annual.

Today I got a forward in Whatsapp of a letter said to be written by a school principal to the parents of students of her school( in Singapore or so) cautioning them against negatively impacting the self confidence of the students who score less in exams. She has reasoned that among the students sitting for exams there may be an artist for whom economics or Maths may not be important in his life, a singer for whom history and physics may not be important a physical fitness person or athlete for whom body health is more important than marks in exam.

So the teacher advises parents to stand with the students who score less by infusing confidence in them to excel in any field they like and have better aptitude.

No examination can decide the fate but only indicates how the students prepared themselves during the year. Parents should keep in mind that scoring high marks in examinations is not the only thing in life and they must not unnecessarily pressurize their children to score more. From the activities of many parents, it is felt that they are more worried than their children during the examination which should not be the case. It is only because of the emphasis given to scoring marks and making examinations the deciding factor of one's life.

Yes, the board examination of classes 10 and 12 has been started in Madhya Pradesh. The local examination of some schools has been completed, in some schools, it is going on and is yet to start in some schools.

My child is in 10 class and he is appearing in board examination first time. He is pressurised and feels tense about what would happen. I told him not to worry. Marks are not important your knowledge is more important than the marks.

Every parent and teacher should understand that any type of pressure or tension can harm the development of the children. So, prepare them for the life, not for the examination.

    Honesty is the best policy.

That is true. This is the time of examinations and parents should see that their children will maintain good health and concentrate on their studies. At the same time, the parents should see that their children will have sufficient sleep so that the children will not feel dizzy and perform well in the examination hall. Parents should not disturb them much during the examination times and see that they will engage themselves fruitfully.
As mentioned by Venkiteswaran, the interest of the student is very important. A kid may like drawing and painting and he will excel in that art if we give sufficient encouragement to him and see that he will practice in the area of his interest. Getting good ranks and marks is not the only issue in our lives. Giving importance to the likes of the child and providing him with sufficient ways and means to get that skill is the prime responsibility of the parents, I feel.

Students should be facilitated during the examination period by creating a calm and quite environment for them in the house. They should not be distracted at any cost. Though the students work hard throughout the year but examination time is very important because at that time they have to review quickly most of the things especially those things which are difficult to be retained in memory.
It is obvious that during the examination time the students should take light food and take care of their throat and stomach as most of the problems start from there only.
Another thing is that parents have to keep a vigil that children do not get depressed or have any breakdown symptom during that period. If any breakdown happens then it would effect their performance in the exam.

Unleash your children. Let them play. Fly. If done so, they will make you proud dear parents.

Very nice thread presented by the author which is really commendable. This wisdom which is always expected from children is beautifully conveyed by the author to the parents, while also sharing their childhood experiences, reminding everyone of their exam days. In fact, when children have exams, it seems that many parents are also giving exams again, especially mothers. In school, during my exams, my mother used to wake up early in the morning to make tea for me even after I refused. She used to stay awake with me lest I fall asleep somewhere. Neither she used to watch TV in those days nor did she make any plans outside. This is also a big sacrifice that parents make for their children, and I think children should also understand this.
