My view: Government should reimburse the cost of purchasing uniform in school

Uniform is very important part of school education. Uniform in school brings a sense of oneness among the school students, because uniform is uniform for all students in a school. Further, school uniform brings a sense of pride and gives a 'josh' to the students for doing something great for the honour of the school.

But, unfortunately in many rural areas of India, students can't wear uniform in school. I have seen in many rural areas spread across all States and UTs of the country that many school-going children don't wear uniform simply because their guardians can't afford the uniform. So, the objective of having the uniform for school-going children is not fulfilled.

Under the aforestated circumstances, I suggest that every State/UT Government should reimburse the cost of purchasing uniform for all registered students of the Government-run and Government-sponsored schools once in a year. This will help serving the purpose of having school-uniform. In an economically-strong India, it is absolutely feasible for all State/UT Governments of the country.

What do you think in this regard?

A uniform is very important not only for a student but for various employees in the organisation. When all the students or all the employees come with uniform dress, they feel that all are equal and there are no differences among them.
In Telangana, all government schools fixed a uniform for all the students. Economically backward students and reserved category students get them free of cost from the government. Middle-class general category students have to make their own arrangements but wear the uniform. I think the same is followed in many other states also. All private schools also will have a uniform dress code and without that uniform students will not be allowed to school. It would be good if the government provided uniforms to all students irrespective of their caste and income levels.

It is very true that uniform inculcates a feeling of discipline, unity, and sign of integration in any educational institute and in a broader sense we can say that it is applicable everywhere in any organisation including the army.
As regards to the question of providing it free to the students by the government, in some states, the poor and downtrodden people are provided this facility but I don't think that it is applicable in all the states in our country. It will be a good thing if all the students below a certain economic threshold are provided the free uniform so that the parents who cannot afford it can also have it.

    Knowledge is power.

Reimbursement of cost of uniform once in a year must be uniform. The reimbursement must not be confined to particular caste, creed, community, religion, etc. Reimbursement must be for all students.

But unfortunately in India, there is no uniformity in giving incentives to people. Only selected castes and religions only will have the privilege of getting such benefits from the government. This policy of government is creating differences among the students.

On one hand the wearing uniform is not liked by students as well parents of such students. However wearing uniform in schools should be a mandatory one.

In Tamil Nadu all Government Schools as well Government aided schools they are providing uniform dress, shoes, bag, study materials, notebooks free of cost to the students.

Moreover the uniform is an identity to students and their mind level is upright by wearing uniform.
Even in factories the uniform is an important one.
We were very proud to wear uniform daily to our office. In our factory we used to offer uniform to all levels of employees and even our Managing Director used to wear uniform coat whenever he enter into the factory which has been kept ready in his room.

In govt schools in Kerala this was being done so. Earlier they used to supply the uniform cloth at schools ,but later thy started reimbursing a fixed amount including stitching charge. This was the case till a couple of years ago.(one of my relative family child was receiving this). I am not aware of the exact latest status.
During summer vacation months, they were giving the rice and provision kit to the (eligible children who were the beneficiaries of noon meal scheme in schools).
There are a lo of benefits and facilities to the poor and other statutorily allowed eligible students in Govt schools in Kerala.

It is nice to know that some of the state governments such as Telangana, Kerala have taken initiative to reimburse the cost of uniforms for the economically poor class people. It is certainly a decent culture to maintain the uniform dress code for the entire school and such a uniform dress code would allow the students to have their feelings of equality. This is itself a great achievement.
The state Governments should ensure that the students should not face hardships in getting their school dresses despite their economic difficulties.
