LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarships 2022 for needy students for degree, diploma, vocational courses

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) established the LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation to provide medical relief, educational development, and other assistance towards alleviating poverty. The Foundation has thus provided financial support for the infrastructure of hospitals, schools, vocational centres, libraries, hostels, and the like. In the education sector, the Foundation is offering the LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme (GJSS) under which students who are from families of the economically weaker section are offered financial assistance for pursuing higher studies. There are two sets of scholarships – Firstly, there are 20 regular scholarships per Divisional Centre of LIC, with 10 scholarships for boys and 10 scholarships for girls. Secondly, there are 10 special scholarships for the Girl Child per Divisional Centre of LIC. Note that the scholarship is not offered for postgraduate courses, and a scholarship is offered to only one student in a family.
GJSS - Regular Scholarships
Scholarship Duration: The scholarship is for the entire duration of the course, but will be renewed each year only on the basis of meeting the eligibility conditions. That is, you must get more than 55% marks if pursuing a course in a professional stream, and 50% marks if pursuing a graduation course in Arts/Science/Commerce or an equivalent grade in the previous final exam of the course for which the scholarship has been awarded. If this condition is not met, then the scholarship will be discontinued. Other conditions include regular attendance as decided by the school/college/university, providing the relevant authentic certificates and other documents when required, etc.
Scholarship Amount: Rs.20,000/- per annum, to be paid in three installments via NEFT transfer to the bank account of the student. It must be ensured that the account is active and not dormant.
Educational Qualification: You should have passed the Class 12 exam or its equivalent exam which is a regular academic course/vocational course or a Diploma with at least 60% marks or an equivalent grade in the academic year 2021-22.
Family Income criteria: The annual income of your parents/guardian from all sources should not be more than Rs.2,50,000 per annum. There may be a relaxation in the upper limit of this criterion from the present Rs.2.5 lakhs to Rs.4 lakhs but this will be only in cases where a woman (unmarried or a single mother or a widow) is the sole earning member of the family.
The income certificate should be a self-certified one. It can be in the form of an affidavit on a non-judicial stamp paper in the case of parents who are self-employed, and from the employer in the case of employed parents, along with relevant documents (from the revenue department), such as to indicate that the parents hold any land, etc.
Course Enrolled: You should be keen to pursue a higher education course in the field of Medicine or Engineering; Graduation in any discipline. The courses can be any of these- a Diploma course or its equivalent in any field, an Integrated course, or a vocational course. Whichever course it is, it should be pursued through a Government-recognized college or institute or a course in a Government-recognized Industrial Training Institute (ITI).
You are also eligible for the scholarship if you are a student who has passed the Class 10 exam or an equivalent exam with a minimum of 60% marks (or an equivalent grade) in the academic year 2021-22 and fulfill the income criteria as stated above. The grant will be provided to pursue higher education through a vocational or diploma course at a Government-recognized college or institution or a course at a Government-recognized Industrial Training institute (ITI).
GJSS - Scholarships for the Girl Child
Scholarship Duration: The scholarship is for two years, but will be renewed each year only on the basis of meeting the eligibility conditions. That is, you should secure at least 50% marks in Class 11 to become eligible for renewal of the scholarship. Other conditions include regular attendance as decided by the school/college/university, providing the relevant authentic certificates and other documents when required, etc.
Scholarship Amount: Rs.10,000/ per annum, to be paid in three installments via NEFT transfer to the bank account of the student. It must be ensured that the account is active and not dormant.
Educational Qualification: You should have passed the Class 10 exam or its equivalent exam with a minimum of 60% marks (or equivalent grade) in the academic year 2021-22.
Family Income criteria: The annual income of your parents/guardian from all sources should not be more than Rs.2,50,000 per annum. (refer to the requirement of the income certificate as stated above for regular scholars)
Course Enrolled: You should be pursuing higher studies in Intermediate/10 + 2 pattern/vocational or a Diploma course through a Government-recognized college or institution or a course in an Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) for two years. GJSS Application procedure
Make sure that you read all the instructions and guidelines before filling in the GJSS application form that should be submitted in online mode only.
When filling up the online form, for the details of the academic studies of Class 10/equivalent or Class 12/Diploma/equivalent (as applicable), you have to enter the name of the Board/Council of Exam/University/Institute, the year of passing, and the percentage of marks. You also need to enter the name of the Bank, branch name, bank account number, IFSC of the Bank, and the last four digits of the Aadhar Card number. So keep all these details ready beforehand. In the case of income criteria, you have to select from the list of the income range that is provided (the list starts with less than Rs. 25,001/- per annum and goes up to Rs.2,50,001 - Rs.4,00,000/-).
Important note: It will be mandatory to provide the correct bank details, including the IFSC code as well as a copy of a cancelled cheque of that bank account with the name of the beneficiary, once the student has been selected for the scholarship. Since some banks have got merged, ensure that you provide the new IFSC Code of the Bank.
After successfully submitting the online application, an acknowledgment of it will be sent to the email ID that has been provided in the application form. After that, the Divisional Office that is mentioned in the email will communicate with you with further instructions/requirements as applicable.
